CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that they have agreed to terms with defensemen Antoine Corbin and Martin Schumnig for the 2013-14 season.
Corbin, a 21-year-old Granby, Quebec native, is set to begin his second season as a professional after logging 30 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL) in 2012-13. With the Bulldogs, the six-foot-three-inch rear guard notched three points (1 goal, 2 assists) and 22 penalty minutes. He also skated in six ECHL games with the San Francisco Bulls, scoring one goal. Prior to going pro, Corbin played four seasons in the WHL with Kelowna and Prince Albert – amassing a total of 189 games and 70 points (27 goals, 43 assists).
“Antoine is a strong skater with a big frame,” said Cyclones Head Coach Ben Simon. “I had a chance to coach against him last year and really liked what I saw. This will be great opportunity for him to build off of his rookie season.”
Schumnig, a 24-year-old, will be playing in North America for the first time in his career. The Klagenfurt, Austria native played for his hometown club in each of the last six seasons, collecting a total of 41 points (8 goals, 33 assists) in 210 games. He has also been named to the Austrian League All-Star Team in three straight years and is a two-time league champion. In 2011-12, he helped lead the Austrian D1A team to the Silver Medal in the World Championships.
“Martin has been identified as a top defensive talent,” said Simon. “He has demonstrated success in a top European league and has been a prospect for the Austrian Olympic Team as well. I’m very excited to watch him develop as he plays in his first North American season.”
