Rogers, 25, appeared in 27 games between two stints with the Cyclones in 2006-07, netting four goals and adding two assists for six points. Matt scored the game winning goal in 4-1 triumph over Trenton on March 16. His first professional point came via an assist on the game winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Wheeling on Nov. 18. Rogers also played six games with Chicago (UHL) and ten games win Rio Grande (CHL).

The five players signed to tryout agreements are forwards Steven Doherty and P.O. Mouton, defenseman Sean Perkins and goaltenders Lee Lansdowne and John Smith.

Doherty, 25, has played professionally as a forward for six games. His first professional goal came with Kalamazoo (UHL) during 2005-06. Mouton, 21, served as a center with Kahnawake (QJAHL) last season. He appeared in 35 games, collecting 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points. Smith, 21, served as a backup for the Cyclones for five games last season, but did not see any action.

?It's always good to bring guys to training camp and let them compete for spots,? Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. ?Last year, we found Matt Rogers this way. Sometimes players get overlooked and you want to make sure that as many as possible are checked out. We want to make sure no stone is unturned. Last year we had Jarred Mohr and Robin Richards make the club through this process.?

Rogers is the twelfth player on the Cyclones roster for 2007-08 (Jean-Michel Daoust, Barret Ehgoetz, Travis Fuller, Greg Gallagher, Billy Irish-Baker, Matt Macdonald, Conrad Martin, Gerard Miller, Scott Reynolds, Chad Starling and Avery Wilson are the others).
Desjardins, Irish-Baker Shine In Win

CINCINNATI – Cedrick Desjardins posted his second straight shutout and Billy Irish-Baker netted his first two-goal game as a pro, as the Cincinnati Cyclones took a 4-0 win over the Wheeling Nailers Wednesday night at U.S. Bank Arena. The win was Cincinnati’s third in the last four games.

The Cyclones opened the scoring 13:33 into the first period, when right wing Jean-Michel Daoust netted his first goal of the seasonon the power play. Daoust fired a one-timer from the bottom of the faceoff circle to the right of David Brown, collecting the pass from defenseman Gerard Miller, who extended his point streak to five games. Rookie David Desharnais added the second assist on the score. The shots favored Cincinnati, 13-8, in the opening frame.

One key moment in the game occurred in the first period when Wheeling had a three-minute power play, including a full minute of five-on-three time. The Nailers squeezed off four shots during that flurry, but the ECHL’s second-best power play unit came away empty.

Cincinnati netted a pair of goals in the second period to open a 3-0 edge. Rookie forward Billy Irish-Baker picked up his first goal of the season at 1:09, as he waited at the far post for a pass from Desharnais, as Chad Starling picked up the other assist. At 11:04, Thomas Beauregard took a long pass from Tyler Howells up the right wing to pick up his fourth goal of the season. With Wheeling in the middle of a line change, Howells connected with Beauregard, who worked his way to the left goalpost and slipped the puck past Brown. The Cyclones outshot Wheeling, 16-9.

The Cyclones closed out the scoring at 16:27 of the third, when Irish-Baker picked up his second of the night, as Andrew Martin and Miller added the assists. Wheeling held the shooting edge in the third period, 9-6, but was outshot, 35-26, for the night.

Cedrick Desjardins picks up the win with his second consecutive shutout. The 26 save performance was the sixth blanking of his career and his fourth at U.S. Bank Arena.

The win makes Cincinnati 5-3 on the year and in second place in the North Division. Wheeling drops to 3-3-1 on the campaign.

Cincinnati plays the middle game of the three-game homestand on tomorrow (Nov. 8) versus Augusta. The highlight game of that stretch is the Saturday, Nov. 10 contest against Augusta on ‘Throwback Night’, when concessions and souvenirs will be discounted. Tickets for that game will also have a 1970s feel, as they will be priced at $6 each for everything from the third row and beyond.

CINCINNATI – Goals eleven seconds apart in the first period and a pair of goals in the second period from Mathieu Aubin set the Cincinnati Cyclones in motion to end a two game losing streak in a 7-1 win over the Elmira Jackals on Wednesday night. The triumph also ended a seven-game winning streak for the North Division leaders.

The Cyclones opened with a flurry, netting all three goals of the first period. Brian Schmidt opened the scoring with a shot from the point 5:14 into the frame, his third of the season, with Scott Reynolds and Mathieu Aubin adding the assists. Matt Syroczynski tipped in a shot at 13:15, his fourth of the year, from another point blast from Schmidt with another helper going to Mark Matheson. Eleven seconds later, at 13:26, Andrew Miller scored his second of the campaign from James Sixsmith and Thomas Beauregard.

Chuck Weber Signed For 2007-08!

CINCINNATI, Ohio ? The Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL announced this afternoon they have re-signed Head Coach Chuck Weber for the 2007-08 season. Terms of the deal were not released.

Weber, 34, directed the Cyclones to a 37-29-4-2 record and a third-place finish in the North Division. The 37 wins, 80 standings points and .556 winning percentage were all the second-best in club history (1995-96 Louisville squad had 39 wins, 85 points and a .607 win percentage).

The Cyclones were the first ECHL team in two seasons to pull an upset in a Kelly Cup playoff round with their sweep of Toledo in the opening round of the postseason. Cincinnati came within a game of advancing to the American Conference finals in its first season back after two years of inactivity in the ECHL.

Chuck was the runner-up for ECHL Coach of the Year accolades behind Alaska?s Davis Payne. The first-year mentor of the Cyclones had an eleven-game unbeaten streak at home from November 18 through January 6, posting a 9-0-2 mark along the way. Cincinnati led the North Division for 90 days, from December 23 through March 23.

?I?m very happy to have the opportunity to return to the Cyclones,? Weber said. ?I was fortunate to have the ability to build this team from scratch. We have a great foundation here. I am very excited about the upcoming season."

Among Weber?s accomplishments was securing an affiliation agreement with the NHL?s Montreal Canadiens, helping to develop the ECHL All-Star Game?s winning goaltender Cedrick Desjardins and acquiring the league?s top goal scorer Mike Wirll. The team turned in a 7-4-1 mark (.625 win percentage) during January?a month that saw the club ravaged by the call up of five players to the AHL and the loss of 31 man-games due to those recalls.

?We?re happy to have Chuck Weber signed for next season,? Cyclones president Ray Harris said. ?He built a solid foundation for this team and proved he could assemble a club that could compete every night. We?re looking forward to having another great season in 2007-08.?

Weber was named as the Head Coach of the Cincinnati Cyclones in May 2006, bringing a track record of success with him. Chuck previously served as an assistant coach for seven seasons?being a part of one championship (Orlando 2001).

In 2005-06, Weber was with the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL), serving as assistant coach and Assistant Director of Hockey Operations. The club posted a 36-30-6 record and was eliminated from the Kelly Cup playoffs, by the eventual champions?the Alaska Aces.

Chuck?s coaching career began during the 1999-2000 season with the Orlando Solar Bears of the International Hockey League (IHL). In just his second season (2000-01) as a coach, he was a part of the Turner Cup championship in the league?s final season.

The following year (2001-02), Weber was the assistant with Trenton (ECHL) and the Titans posted the ECHL?s second-best record (46-16-10). Trenton won the Northeast Division championship and advanced to the Kelly Cup quarterfinals. In 2002-03, Chuck stepped up to the next level as an assistant coach with Milwaukee of the American Hockey League (AHL). During his year with the Admirals, he helped direct the Admirals to a 32-27-14-7 record. In the Calder Cup playoffs that year, Milwaukee was eliminated in the second round by the eventual champion Houston Aeros.

For the 2003-04 season, Weber accepted a new challenge as the assistant coach and Assistant Director of Hockey Operations for Augusta (ECHL). During his two seasons with the Lynx, Chuck helped guide the club to a 60-68-16 record. Following the 2004-05 season, he had the opportunity to move out west and work with Utah.

Weber is a 1995 graduate of the University of Albany, where he majored in Communications and had minors in Athletic Training and Business. He was also a member of the Great Danes hockey program.

This Date In Cyclones History...

MAY 2, 1998 (nine years ago today): Cyclones defenseman Eric Dandenault trickles a shot from the right point through the pads of Detroit Vipers goaltender Jeff Reese, 10:05 into the third overtime to give Cincinnati a 3-2 win.

Dandenault's shot rolled between the legs of the Vipers netminder and dropped onto its side no more than four inches after it cleared the goal line. A weary Cyclones club did its best to celebrate the victory--which took nearly the length of a doubleheader to complete.

The game, which ended at 12:35am at The Palace, took just over five hours to complete. The Cyclones would have to play later that same night against Detroit, losing 3-1, to even the series at a game apiece. The Vipers would win the next three games after that to capture the best-of-seven series and would advance to the Turner Cup finals--before losing in seven games to the Chicago Wolves.

During the six period game with Detroit, Cyclones goaltender Geoff Sarjeant would take three liters of IV during the overtime intermissions. Despite having the flu and losing a reported 12 pounds during the game, 'The Sarje' knocked away a franchise-playoff record 53 shots.

It happened nine years ago today.

Dayton Claims 3-0 Win From Cyclones

FAIRBORN, Ohio ? The Dayton Bombers got a 32 save performance from Adam Berkhoel and parlayed that into a 3-0 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones Wednesday night at the Nutter Center. The victory sets up a seventh game in the North Division finals. The defeat was the first road loss for the Cyclones in the playoffs in five games.

The first period had no scoring, but featured hard-checking up and down play. The shots on goal favored Dayton, 12-11, while each team had two power play chances.

Dayton opened the scoring in the second period when at 15:35, Paul Kelly netted his seventh goal of the playoffs from Jeff Hristovski and Yannick Tifu. Kelly let loose a shot from the high slot and beat Cedrick Desjardins to the nearside post. The Cyclones outshot the Bombers, 12-8, in the period.

The Bombers netted a pair of third period goals from Brent Walton, his second of the playoffs at 7:43, while shorthanded. Walton?s goal was assisted by Trevor Frischmon and Greg Labenski. The third goal of the night came from Joe Cullen, his third of the postseason at 18:07. Brad Farynuk had the assist.

Desharnais, Russell Each Record Four Points In Win!

CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Cyclones rookie David Desharnais turned in his fifth four-point night of the season and guide the North Division champions to a 6-2 win over Reading on Wednesday night. Desharnais, who leads the ECHL with 98 points, had a pair of goals and a pair of assists in the contest. Rookie Ryan Russell pulled the same feat (two goals and two assists) in the contest as well.

The Cyclones became the third Cincinnati professional hockey team to win at least 51 games in the regular season. The last was the IHL’s version of the Cyclones in 1995-96 (51 wins) before losing in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The 1972-73 Cincinnati Swords (AHL) won 54 games and captured the Calder Cup championship.

The Cyclones took a 2-1 lead in the first period. At 9:59, Matt Syroczynski registered his 30th goal of the season to give Cincinnati a 1-0 edge. David Desharnais threw the puck from behind the net into the slot to Syroczynski, who snapped off the shot. Ryan Russell added the other assist. The lead extended to 2-0, when Russell came up the left wing side and took a feed from Olivier Latendresse and Desharnais. Just 16 seconds later—at 17:36, Reading cut the deficit to 2-1, as Brock Hooton netted his 24th goal, firing a shot from the bottom of the right circle that slipped through Cincinnati netmind Cody Rudkowsky.

In the second period, Desharnais scored a pair of goals to help Cincinnati open a 4-1 edge. The first came at 14:48, as he came down the right wing side taking passes from Russell and Syroczynski. The second of the frame came as he worked the bottom of the right circle and lifted a shot over Royals netminder John Murray. Desharnais took the pass from Mathieu Aubin and Latendresse for his 26th goal of the campaign.

Cincinnati opened the scoring in the third period at 3:50, when Scott Reynolds netted his 13th goal from Trevor Wolfe to extend the lead to 5-1. A Reading goal from Charlie Kronschnabel at 10:39, narrowed the lead to 5-2. Russell closed out the scoring with his second goal of the night and third of the season at 13:33, as Chris Ferazzoli and Josh Coyle added the helpers.

Cody Rudkowsky stopped 23 shots in running his record with the Cyclones to 4-0-2.

The Cincinnati Cyclones are 41 games above .500, with a 51-10-5 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division—22 points ahead of second place Elmira. The win gives Cincinnati a 35-4-3 record since December 15. Reading is 37-23-6 and in third place in the division, 27 points behind Cincinnati. The 51 wins are the most ever by the club.

The Cyclones are next in action Friday night versus Elmira with a 7:30pm faceoff scheduled at U.S. Bank Arena. It is U.S. Bank Fan Appreciation Night—with one dollar hot dogs, Pepsis and beers. That night will also be a special or fans purchasing season tickets for the 2008-09 season, as tickets will be $320 for all 36 games if paid in full that night—that price is $20 lower than the normal cost of $340.

By winning the North Division, the Cyclones have a bye in the play-in round of the ECHL postseason and will host the winner of the fourth seed-fifth seed, best-of-three series at the end of the regular season. The first game of the best-of-seven series that the Cyclones will play, opens at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, April 11 at 7:30pm. The second contest (Game ‘B’ will be played the next night—Saturday, April 12).

Cyclones ‘Teach’ Johnstown A Lesson, 4-3

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati Cyclones netted four power play goals in a 4-3 win over the Johnstown Chiefs, in a Wednesday morning game at U.S. Bank Arena. The contest was an ‘Education In Hockey Day’ game, with more than 4100 students from the area attending the game. Mathieu Aubin and Olivier Latendresse each had a pair of goals and a pair of assists in the win. David Desharnais, the ECHL’s leading scorer—chipped in with four assists.

Johnstown raced out to a 2-0 lead a bit more than four minutes in the game. Alexandre Imbeault opened the scoring 2:51 into the frame—slamming home a rebound from the top of the top of the goal crease—his tenth goal of the year. Rookie Joel Gasper, in his first pro game, collected the assist. A little more than a minute later, at 4:07, Jason Spence banged home his fifth goal of the campaign from Vincent Zaore and Joey Olson.

Lesson number one was taught here, do not give the ECHL’s top power play unit a chance to operate. The Cyclones at 22.3 percent lead the league in conversion rate and went four for six on the day.

A two-man advantage later in the first period allowed Cincinnati to get back in the game. Mathieu Aubin nailed his 22nd goal of the season at 8:22, just nine seconds after the two-man advantage began. Aubin waited at the left post and waited for a pass from David Desharnais, who took it from Olivier Latendresse. Thirty-five seconds later, at 8:57, Aubin picked up his second of the day and 23rd of the year from Desharnais and Latendresse, again. Aubin came down the left wing side and buried a backhanded shot past Ryan Nie. The shots on goal favored Johnstown, 18-6, in the opening period.

In the second period, the Cyclones grabbed the lead when Olivier Latendresse buried his fifth goal of the season—on the power play—at 14:24. Desharnais and Aubin had the assists on the goal. Cincinnati survived high drama late in the frame, as the club killed 28 seconds of five-on-three power play time by the Chiefs. Johnstown again won the shots on goal battle, 10-7, in the period.

Lesson number two came next, when the Cyclones hold a lead entering the third period, they were 32-3-1. After the final frame—they became 33-3-1.

The Cyclones scored on their only shot of the third period, as Latendresse picked up his second of the afternoon and sixth of the season at 4:11. Aubin and Desharnias added the assists. It was the fourth power play goal of the day. Mike Knight rounded out the scoring for Johnstown, notching his eighth goal at 17:41 from Imbeault and Randy Rowe. The shots on goal favored the Chiefs, 6-1, in the period and 34-14 for the game.

Cody Rudkowsky picked up the win, his eleventh of the campaign, stopping 32 shots. Ryan Nie, in his second bid to set Johnstown’s career wins record, took the loss to drop to 24-12-4, making ten saves.

The last lesson came with the victory, which assured Cincinnati of no worse than finishing with the ECHL’s third-best record at the end of the regular season.

CYCLONES NOTEBOOK:

Prior to Wednesday’s game, the Cyclones received defenseman Jon Gleed from the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL). Gleed, a second-year pro, has appeared in 22 games with Hamilton, collecting a pair of assists and 14 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 13 games with the Cyclones, tallying four assists and 30 penalty minutes. The Cyclones also signed forward Chris Ferazzoli, a rookie who played with Indiana (MAHL) and was the circuit’s third-leading scorer with 65 points (22-43-65).

On Monday (March 17), for the first time in club history, the Cincinnati Cyclones have captured the ECHL’s North Division title. The club, which began in Louisville in 1995-96, is in its ninth season of operation. The IHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones won one division title (1995-96). That edition of the Cyclones was the last team to crack the 100-plus point barrier in the standings, registering 111 points.

The Cincinnati Cyclones are 39 games above .500, with a 49-10-4 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division—23 points ahead of second place Elmira. The win gives Cincinnati a 33-4-2 record since December 15. Johnstown is 30-29-5 and in fourth place in the division. The 49 wins are the most ever by the club.

The Cyclones are next in action Friday night (March 21) at Johnstown at 7pm. The game will be carried on the internet at: www.cycloneshockey.com. The game will also be carried on 96 Rock. Saturday’s game at Wheeling will be a 7:30pm start on 96 Rock also.

Currently, the Cyclones sit with the ECHL’s second-best record. Assuming the club does not record a point the rest of the season—the Cyclones would be the third-seed overall in the postseason. Only Texas (possible total of 122) and Las Vegas (110) could record more points, than Cincinnati (102ac) currently has.

Tickets for all Cyclones games can be purchased at the U.S. Bank Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets including select Kroger stores, charge by phone at 513-562-4949 or online at ticketmaster.com. The Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League and Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League, announced they have agreed to terms with defenseman Greg Gallagher and forward Billy Irish-Baker. Both players spent part of last season with the Cyclones.

Irish-Baker played in just six games for the Cyclones in March, but netted a goal during that span. Billy finished his collegiate career this season at Canisius College, where he gathered nine points (3-6-9) in 35 games with the Golden Griffins. As a sophomore in 2003-04, he led Canisius with twelve goals.

?Greg and Billy will be expected to help solidify the defense and forward positions,? Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. ?They come from solid collegiate backgrounds and I was impressed with both of their contributions here last season.?

Cyclones Rev Offense In 5-2 Win

CINCINNATI, Ohio ? Cincinnati Cyclones rookie forward Mathieu Aubin netted a pair of goals and added an assist in a 5-2 win over Reading Wednesday night at U.S. Bank Arena. Rookie defenseman Jarred Mohr added his second goal of the season and an assist to the cause. Goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped 33 shots in taking home his 17th win of the season.

The Cyclones entered the evening with a three-game losing streak and Reading looked to continue it by scoring 64 seconds into the contest. Shawn Collymore netted his eleventh tally of the year to give Reading a 1-0 lead. The Cyclones responded with goals 64 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead, with Jarred Mohr?s second goal of the year at 3:12 and Mathieu Aubin?s fifth goal at 4:16. Aubin?s goal was assisted by Mohr and Chad Starling. With 11.8 seconds left in the opening frame, Erik Johnson scored his third goal of the season to make the score, 3-1 through 20 minutes.

The Royals closed the gap to 3-2, with Dany Roussin?s fifth goal at 59 seconds of the period, but a pair of power play goals later in the frame by the Cyclones extended the lead to 5-2. Aubin?s second goal of the night and sixth of the season at 10:09 came from Cincinnati native Jason Deitsch and Matt Macdonald. Cory Urquhart collected his team-leading 22nd goal at 17:16, with Torry Gajda and Aubin picking up the assists.

The five goals scored by the Cyclones are the most since the club slammed home a season-high seven against Wheeling in a 7-1 triumph back on Dec. 23. Cincinnati is 5-1-1 against Reading this season.

The contest saw the return of the Cyclones to U.S. Bank Arena for the first time in 19 days. The club had played five straight games away from home since winning over Toledo on Jan. 12, posting a 2-3 record during the trip. It was Cincinnati?s first home game in the second half of the season.

The Cyclones are now 22-16-1-2, holding a two point lead over Trenton and Toledo for the North Division lead. Reading is 19-21-0-5 and is in fifth place in the North Division. The Cyclones host Trenton on Friday (Feb. 2 at 7:30pm at U.S. Bank Arena).

Comeback Kids Strike Again, 2-1

CINCINNATI – Scott Reynolds’ tenth goal of the season with 12:43 remaining, broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Cincinnati Cyclones a 2-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers Wednesday night. Reynolds ripped a shot from the slot, as Barret Ehgoetz and Chad Starling set the play up for him.

Following a scoreless first period, the Checkers scored the first goal at 3:35 of the second frame. Bruce Graham picked up his seventh goal of the season, on the power play, and his second in as many nights, pushing a puck under Cyclones netminder Dov Grumet-Morris. Mike Bayrack and Ryan Constant added the assists.

In the third period, Cincinnati knotted the game up at 1-1, when Thomas Beauregard grabbed a rebound a stuffed it past Chris Holt. Chad Starling’s shot from the point created the rebound, as David Desharnais added the assist.

Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 32 shots in collecting his 16th win of the year, since November 4, Grumet-Morris is 14-1-1.

It was the twelfth come-from-behind victory for the Cyclones this season. Cincinnati has the unusual distinction of not losing a game in regulation time this year when allowing the first goal (11-0-2).

The Cyclones entered the games with a club record-tying eleven game unbeaten-in-regulation (9-0-2) stretch. Cincinnati has not lost at U.S. Bank Arena in regulation time since a 4-2 defeat to Dayton on November 24. The twelve game stretch is the second-longest in the ECHL this season.

For the first time in team history, the Cincinnati Cyclones are 21 games above .500, with a 29-8-3 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division. The triumph gives Cincinnati a 13-2-1 record since December 15.

The Cyclones are 29-8-3 on the season, leaders of the North Division, two points ahead of Elmira. Charlotte is 18-18-4. The magic number for clinching a playoff berth is 36.

Cincinnati is also 7-0 on Wednesday nights at home this season.

Cincinnati is next in action at Wheeling on Friday night (7pm) and at Trenton on Saturday (7:30pm). Both games will be carried on 96 Rock (WTFK-FM). The Cyclones are next at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday, February 6 for a 10am game against Mississippi, in one of the ‘Education In Hockey Day’ games the club will host this season.

Tickets for all Cyclones games can be purchased at the U.S. Bank Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets including select Kroger stores, charge by phone at 513-562-4949 or online at ticketmaster.com.
Cyclones Visit Clermont Northeastern Elementary!

OWENSBORO, Ohio ? Cincinnati Cyclones forwards Torry Gajda and Greg Stewart visited Clermont Northeastern Elementary on Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 23) and left a lasting impression on the 500-plus second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-graders there.

The players were on an appearance helping promote the Cyclones ?Education In Hockey Day? game, coming up on Tuesday, March 27 at 10:30am at U.S. Bank Arena. The fourth grade at Clermont Northeastern will be attending.

?It?s great to be able to go into the schools and talk with the kids,? Gajda said afterward. ?You never know what the questions will be and it is fun to watch them pick up hockey equipment and wonder how we wear all the gear.?

Gajda and Stewart spent two hours with the students and covered everything from how their careers started, how strenuous practice was, injuries suffered, to wondering why they picked hockey over other sports.

?The unique part is watching the kids during the interaction,? Stewart said. ?They see a video (Cyclones highlights) and we just chat with them during the time. It?s fun for them and it is fun for us as well.?

The students also learned from the players that the ice at U.S. Bank Arena is approximately one and a half inched thick, that the ice is best kept at 19 degrees and that the Zamboni is a complex machine that resurfaces the ice quickly and efficiently.

This was the third stop that Cyclones players have made this season in helping promote the ?Education In Hockey Day? game on Tuesday, March 27. Currently, more than 2400 tickets have been reserved by 17 schools for the event. A total of six school appearances are tied in with the promotion.

Other schools interested in participating in the program, or learning more about the curriculum, are asked to contact the Cyclones at 513-421-4111, ext. 139.

Cyclones Weekly News -- 1/2/08

IT IS GREAT TO BE SITTING ON EIGHT (Straight Wins)!
Cincinnati Extends Club Record Winning Streak To Eight Games

COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones, winners eight straight games open up a weekend series with the Reading Royals. Cincinnati just completed its six game, five city, road trip with a perfect 6-0 mark. The Cyclones are 6-0-1 at U.S. Bank Arena since November 24.

HOME COOKIN’: The Cyclones games at U.S. Bank Arena this weekend are part of ‘NASCAR Weekend’. Friday night, more than 50 different autographed NASCAR items will be given away to fans and hot dogs will be one dollar apiece. Saturday night, Matt Kenseth will be on hand to meet selected fans and sign autographs. A special pregame dinner with Kenseth is available for fans to attend--call the Cyclones at 513-421-7825 for more details.

ADD ANOTHER RECORD TO THE COLLECTION...: The Cyclones set the club record for wins in December, or any other month, with their twelfth win at Trenton, 3-1, Monday afternoon. The twelve wins are one more than the previous club record for wins in a month (ten in both November 2007 and March 2002).

EIGHT IN A ROW!: The win Monday was the team’s eighth in a row, eclipsing the previous mark for consecutive wins with seven from Dec. 22, 1995 through Jan. 5, 1996.

EIGHTEEN ABOVE .500!: The Cyclones, with a record of 24-6-2, are 18 games above .500 for the first time in team history. On March 19, 1995 the Louisville Riverfrogs beat Erie, 5-1, to improve to 38-22-7--the only time in history that the organization had been 16 games above break even. The last time a Cincinnati pro sports team was at least 18 games above .500 was when the Cincinnati Reds were 96-67 after their game on October 4, 1999.

ABOUT MONDAY...: Cincinnati closed its six game road trip with a 3-1 win at Trenton on New Year’s Eve. Jean-Michel Daoust, Matt Syroczynski and Cory Urquhart netted the goals, while Daoust and David Desharnais each had three point afternoons. Dov Grumet-Morris picked up the win, stopping eighteen shots and holding the Devils off the scoreboard for nearly 53 minutes.

ABOUT SATURDAY NIGHT...: The Cyclones took a 5-1 win at Elmira. With the score tied at 1-1 after two periods, the fireworks show came midway through the third period--as four goals, a line-brawl, both goaltenders slugging it out and 96 penalty minutes in the frame--settled the score. Scott Reynolds netted the game winning goal early in the third period, shorthanded. Cedrick Desjardins stopped 18 shots before his ejection in the battle with Joel Martin, to collect the win.

ROAD WARRIORS: The Cyclones are 13-3 away from U.S. Bank Arena this season. Cincinnati is one of two teams with at least 13 road wins on the year and one of two teams with at least a .800 winning percentage or better in road games. The club has won ten of its last eleven sojourns away from U.S. Bank Arena--the lone loss coming at WesBanco Arena in a 3-2 defeat on December 15. That is the only regulation time loss for the club since November 24.

GUNNING FOR 25 WINS!: The Cyclones picked up their 24th win of the season in Monday’s 3-1 win at Trenton--setting a club record for earliest, and fastest, to the plateau. Previously, the 1995-96 Louisville squad had 24 wins on Jan. 16 to establish both records. The average date in club history to register 25 wins is February 23--nearly two months later than now. Last season, the Cyclones collected their 23rd win on February 2.

SHATTER THIS!: The Cincinnati Cyclones have already won more games than they did prior to the All-Star break in 2006-07. The club was 21-13-3 at the All-Star break in 2006-07. Cincinnati is 24-6-2 right now, with five games remaining before the All-Star break. Cincinnati lost its seventh regulation time game on November 18 of last season.

ROLLING, ROLLING, ROLLING...: The Cyclones are 19-3-2 in the last 24 games (dating back to Nov. 7 with a .833 winning percentage). The only losses the club has suffered in regulation time since Nov. 4 were Thansgiving weekend (Nov. 23-24) to Dayton and Dec. 15 at Wheeling. A pair of seven game unbeaten streaks are included in this stretch, not to mention the current eight game winning streak.

GREAT (RE)CALL: The Cyclones have had fourteen players appear in games with American Hockey League teams this season. Last week, Cincinnati had four players recalled into the AHL, as Jean-Michel Daoust, Matt Macdonald, Gerard Miller and Matt Syroczynski all got the nod. The fourteen players have played a combined 95 games in the AHL this season (Uquhart-21, Matheson-19, Gleed-14, Aubin, Schmidt, Sixsmith-6, Bonneau, Daigneault-5, Desharnais-4, Miller-3, Macdonald-2, Daoust, Syroczynski-1).

CONRAD MARTIN GETS THE CALL: Cyclones defenseman Conrad Martin is the latest Cyclone to get a call from the AHL. Martin has been loaned to the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL) and will be in uniform for the game at Rockford tonight. Matt Macdonald is currently with Rockford.

NUMBERS: Jean-Michel Daoust leads the ECHL in goals with 25 and is also the points leader with 45 points...Barret Ehgoetz leads the league with a +22 rating and is fifth in the league with 38 points, while Scott Reynolds is second at +18, the Cyclones have the top five plus-minus players in the league...Chad Starling and Conrad Martin lead defensemen in plus/minus at +18...Cedrick Desjardins leads the ECHL with three shutouts and is the ECHL leader in goals against average (2.02)...Dov Grumet-Morris is 11-0-1 since Nov. 9 and ranks second in wins with 13...The Cyclones ‘magic number’ to clinching a playoff berth is 58...Cincinnati has led the North Division for 33 days this season, last year the club led the division for 90 straight days (12/30 through 3/29).

CYCLONES COACHES SHOW: The Cyclones Coaches Show airs every Monday from Jefferson Hall at Newport on the Levee from 7-8pm. The show, featuring Head Coach Chuck Weber, also has two Cyclones players appearing each week.

Cincinnati’s Second-Year Coach Tabbed To Work The 16th ECHL All-Star Game

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones learned this afternoon that Head Coach Chuck Weber has been selected as one of the coaches for the American Conference at the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL’s All-Star Game presented by Jackson Rancheria and Bud Light, which will be played Wednesday, January 23 at 10pm at Stockton Arena. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of both the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.

Weber, 34, has directed the Cyclones to a 24-6-2 record and a first place standing in the North Division of the ECHL this season. In his final season, he was voted to the All-Star Team and also selected “Sportsman of the Year”. He was awarded his bachelor’s degree in communications with minors in athletic training and business.

Cyclones 'Teach' Mississippi A Lesson, 8-3

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Four goals in a three-and-a-half minute stretch in the first period opened the floodgates to a 8-3 win for the Cincinnati Cyclones over Mississippi on Wednesday morning. David Desharnais led the attack with two goals, as 13 different Cincinnati players registered points.

The contest was the first of two ‘Education In Hockey Day’ games the Cyclones will host this season, as more than 2700 students from 24 schools in the region were on hand for the game. The Cyclones players taught the kids about lessons in school, while Mississippi tried to copy their homework in the decision.

The Cyclones exploded for the first four goals of the game, in opening a 4-1 edge. David Desharnais deked out the starting goaltender Morgan Cey and flipped a backhanded shot into the empty net for his 13th goal of the season. A.J. Bozoian and James Sixsmith added the assists. A little more than a minute later at 10:41, Travis Fuller took a backdoor feed from Barret Ehgoetz and Jason Deitsch, to net his eleventh goal of the season. Forty seconds after that goal, Billy Irish-Baker teed up a puck at the top of the right circle and rifled it past Cey for his sixth goal of the season. Matt Syroczynski collected the assist on the goal.

Mississippi then brought in netminder Ryan Munce to replace Cey. A little less than two minutes later, Chad Starling collected his first goal since March 24 of last season—firing a puck into the Sea Wolves zone that hit something in the boards and trickled into the net, as Munce moved behind the net to play the puck. Ehgoetz and Scott Reynolds had the helpers as Cincinnati held its first 4-0 lead of the season.

In a five-on-three situation at 15:26, the Sea Wolves dented the scoreboard whn Jason Tejchma netted his 18th goal of the season from Chris Cava. That power play goal was the first allowed by Cincinnati is three games.

In the second period, the Cyclones extended the lead to 5-1, when Matt Syroczynski picked up his 16th goal on the power play at 2:05. Thomas Beauregard and Fuller added the assists. But Mississippi would score the next to goals to close the gap to 5-3, as Lance Monych (21st) and Mike Hartwick (2nd) scored the goals. The Cyclones third power play goal of the game came at from Desharnais, who tallied his second of the period and 14th of the year from Beauregard.

The third period saw a pair of Cyclones goals to close out the day. Cory Urquhart ripped a shot from the top of the right circle at 14:14, to register his ninth goal of the season. Forward Jimmy Bonneau picked up the assist. Defenseman Trevor Wolfe netted his first ECHL goal 50 seconds later (15:04) to close out the scoring.

Cedrick Desjardins gathered his 13th win of the season, stopping 29 shots. The Cyclones tied a club record with 13 different players recording points during the game.

For the first time in team history, the Cincinnati Cyclones are 24 games above .500, with a 32-8-3 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division. The triumph gives Cincinnati a 16-2-1 record since December 15. Mississippi is 20-25-3. The magic number for clinching a playoff berth is 28.

The ‘Education In Hockey Day’ program is a video board segment that has the Cyclones eight college graduates ‘teaching’ fourth through tenth grade students. The players cover the subjects of math, science, geography and physical education in a near 30 minute long program shown during the pre-game, first and second intermissions. It is the second straight year the team has hosted the program and a second game, already with more than 4000 students signed up—is scheduled for Wednesday, March 19.

Cincinnati is next in action on Friday (Feb. 8) with a 7:30pm showdown with North Division rival Trenton.
