A Hard Fought Point...

Last night certainly didn't go the way that the Cyclones would have wanted...but clawing back to earn a point was HUGE.

Florida's leading scorer Mathieu Roy banked a shot off of Houser from behind the net to pick up the game's first goal just 7 minutes in...

However, Josh Birkholz fought his way to the net 9 minutes later and forced a loose puck over the line to knot things at one.

Unfortunately, just 15 seconds after Birkholz tied it, Dan Milan came up with a chance to bury in the slot - and he did to give the 'Blades a 2-1 edge at the break.

The offense continued for the Everblades in the second, as Corey Trivino and Danick Gauthier each came up with a couple of lucky bounces to pull ahead 4-1.  That's how it would stay through the rest of the period.

But as we've come to expect, the Cyclones offense comes alive in the third period.  Just 3 minutes into the final regulation period, Mike Embach got a puck in the slot right off of a face-off and buried his fifth goal in two games to pull his team to within two.

Then, with under five left to play, Embach found another loose puck after a rebound was pinballed out in front and stashed another - all of a sudden, it was 4-3.

With the momentum firmly shifted back to the Cyclones side, they were able to tie the game when Mathieu Aubin slammed home his 13th of the year with 2.37 left in regulation.

I can honestly say at that point, I expected the Clones to pick up the win.  Heading to overtime was a small victory in and of itself, seeing how they rallied from 3 down in the third.

Unfortunately, though, it was not to be.  It would figure that another lucky bounce managed to beat Michael Houser.  Brett Henley, who rarely contributes on offense, got a puck in the high slot and blasted a shot the careened off of Mike Pelech and into the net for the game winner just 26 seconds into the frame.

Obviously it was a disappointing ending to a wacky game in downtown Cincy...but a point is a point.  Their magic number to clinch a playoff spot is now down to 5.  Should be a great weekend at USBA!  Hopefully, it's a weekend where we'll be able to officially talk playoffs!
