Another strong defensive effort!

With only 10 remaining divisional games, each win against Toledo, Fort Wayne, K-Zoo, and Evansville is crucial. That couldn't have been more true for the Cyclones last night as they prevailed in a defensive 2-1 game!
The Cyclones were dominate from the very outset, outshooting the Komets 12-3 in the opening periods. And at 13:34 of the first, Andrew Conboy took a shot from between the circles that deflected off of the Fort Wayne goaltender and carried into the net.
Then, early in the second, Josh Shalla made a magnificent move to avoid a stick check and fire a puck on net. The rebound left was stashed by Matt Smyth who was camped out in the Komets' slot. It was 2-0 just 3:36 into the middle period.
After continuing to get dominated in the shots on net (Cincy led 25-8 through 2 periods), the Komets finally came to life in the third. They ended up peppering Brian Foster with 13 shots in the final frame. One at the 10:31 mark finally beat the Cincy goalie...Brandon Marino grabbed a loose puck and notched his 16th of the year to pull his team to within one.
In the final minutes, the Clones took a late penalty - forcing them to kill another Komets power play to seal the win. Foster was again spectacular - making several saves to keep his team in the lead for good.
With the victory, the Clones took a commading 10 point lead over Fort Wayne with equal number of games played. Cincy's edge over second place Toledo sits at six points as of Febraury 13.
